Close your eyes for a second and listen to the world around you. Can you hear your child assembling a toy, cars in the street, a dog barking in the distance or some birds which are just flying past your window? Such, seemingly simple, activity of listening to the world around you incorporates not only the sense of hearing but also numerous mechanisms such as voluntary attention, perception, discrimination, integration of information.
The sense of hearing in a child starts to develop itself already in the 25th week of pregnancy, when a child can hear the sounds which he/she will later distinguish and react to in a certain way. Through the sense of hearing a child acknowledges its first information about the world around him/her and builds the relationship of trust towards the sound he/she recognizes. After the birth the sense of hearing develops itself intensively and acquires different roles- it helps a child to establish communication, develop social skills, to orient itself, but it also significantly conditions the development of cognitive functions upon which rests the complete development of a child.
Through the activities done in our concerts, we emphasize not only the development of sense of hearing and the attitude towards music, but also the overall correct development of your children’s cognitive and motor skill capacities. The activities that we engage in while playing music pieces include the development of auditive discrimination, attention, perception, rhythmics, fine and gross motor skills, then the adoption of the concept of time and space as well as certain pre-academic and academic skills, which will enable child’s simpler socialization and that he/she gets on well in the world that awaits him/her.
The role of a defectologist is to take on the role of a facilitator and to encourage further child development through carefully devised activities adapted to the skills of every child. Through game and orientation I assess the abilities and developmental path of every child and suggest further set of activities which will encourage that development in the most natural way, which is also the least stressful for the child.
Music is much more than a sound and the sense of hearing, it is interwoven with a string of development through which a child passes, and whose vibrations a defectologist in a team carefully listens to and uses to create a rich melody.
